Message from UTC Sheffield City Centre

We have increased student online learning using Teams as the predominant method of delivery. This may be supplemented with face to face delivery on site in the coming weeks, for those students who require additional support. All students have been sent information on how to download and set up Teams. Should any student have difficulties with this, please contact admin@utcsheffield.org.uk and we will address your query as soon as possible. Therefore, our offer of face to face teaching, in line with government advice is that we will invite key worker/vulnerable/students who cannot access online delivery.

Please see the Letters page and the Covid-19 Update page for more information.

In these unprecedented times, we are sorry that we are unable to run the parents evening on 15 July 2020.  If you have any pressing concerns, please contact admin@utcsheffield.org.uk

Damian, Creative & Digital

The facilities are great, you learn how to use the latest software and the teachers really understand the industry.

Damian Palliyaguruge has ambitious designs for a career in the film industry.

The 18-year-old has achieved a distinction merit in a technical qualification in creative and digital media as well as a grade B in A Level photography.

Damian joined the UTC in Year 12 at the age of 16 and is now going on to study a Degree in Film Making at the University of the West of England – UWE Bristol.

He said: “When I found out my results I was over the moon because I didn’t expect to get to the grades that I did. I chose the UTC because it offers a really good grounding in a wide range of creative media skills with employers setting the project briefs.”

Damian continued: “I’ve created an advertising campaign for Kahler clothing and a music video for Sheffield rapper Lil Midz. I’ve made a film, a mockumentary, about a misfit band of rockers going through a band break-up, and had the chance to explore photography, journalism and creative writing.

“The facilities are great, you learn how to use the latest software and the teachers really understand the industry. Choosing the UTC was definitely the right decision for me.”

Alex Reynolds, Principal, UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “Damian has fully embraced what the UTC was designed to do. He has taken every opportunity to engage with employers and develop work to an industry standard for real-world clients.”

He added: “Alongside his exceptional results, this positions him in an extremely strong position for his future career in the creative digital media industry once he completes his degree. We wish him all the success during his time at university.”
