Lewis, Computing

Lewis, Y12 Computing student, joined UTC after hearing about the employer engagement opportunities: ‘I decided to join UTC for the fact that they worked directly with employers, we’re currently working with Razor Jam, if I’d have gone elsewhere I wouldn’t have had that opportunity. The best bit of working with them is knowing they’re actually in the field, and maybe one day they might be willing to write a reference for you; for a job interview or for work experience.’

Continuing Lewis said, ‘UTC is a lot more professional than a normal school, it’s the business ethic, including the business attire, timings of the day and the attitude; it just makes the whole experience more professional. Even the building is more like an industry workplace than a college.’

Whilst at UTC Lewis has had the opportunity to use many of the buildings outstanding facilities: ‘The facilities here do a lot for your education, we’ve got really good devices and computer systems to work on. I spend a lot of my project time in the computer suites coding robots and working towards the VEX robotics competition.’

Continuing, ‘At my old school we learnt python and here it’s C#, at first it was hard to learn something new, but now it’s fine and it’s another skill I have.’

Lewis is hoping to pursue a career in physics or computing and feels his A Levels alongside his technical specialism are helping to put him on the right path, summing his experience he said, ‘Absolutely fantastic!’
