UTC OLP student following in his footballing father’s footsteps

Sixteen-year-old Nathaniel Ford has set his sets on following in his father’s footsteps by becoming a Goalkeeper for Rotherham United Football Club. Now he has achieved his GCSE results he is one step closer to that dream as he moves on to a football scholarship at their academy.

After opening his results, he said: “I was a bit nervous coming in today but I’m really happy, I’ve passed everything.”

Nathaniel’s scholarship will allow him to pursue his football passion fulltime whilst continuing his studies within the RUFC academy.

Speaking about his next steps, Nathaniel said: “I’ve been playing football since I can remember. I was signed by Rotherham United on my 9th birthday and have played Goalkeeper ever since. I’m looking forward to playing fulltime. I hope that I am able to get a professional contract at the end of the two years.”

Discussing how UTC has supported his talent: “They have been really good, they have allowed me time out so I can train. I catch up on my work at home. The facilities at UTC are probably the best in Sheffield for a school, they’re really good for football.”
