UTC Student looks forward to Primary Education Degree after successful results

Grace Weaver, UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park student, received high grades in her A Level results, and is excited for the next chapter in her studies.

When did you start at the UTC?
I started here in 2016. I did my GCSEs at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and loved it so continued my studies here through sixth form.

Why did you decide to study here?
I moved to the UTC because it had so many opportunities that other schools didn’t offer, such as links with universities and the hospitals throughout Sheffield. I also loved how the lessons were delivered, as they were more one-to-one in sixth form. That’s the benefit of the school being quite small, as you build up a better relationship with teachers and get to know everyone.

What subjects did you study?
The subjects I chose were English Literature, Psychology and a Diploma in Health and Social Care. I picked these subjects because they link well with each other, so my skills were enhanced throughout the course. My favourite subject was English Literature because I found the history of poems, novels and dramas very interesting. I also loved how words have so many meanings depending on their use.

How did you feel about your A Level results?
I received a D*D*D in Health and Social Care, B in English Literature and B in Psychology. I am really happy with my results and so proud of myself! I’m glad I worked as hard as I did.

What did you enjoy most about studying at the UTC?
I enjoyed studying here because the teachers were very supportive and ensured you gave your all in lessons so you could achieve the highest result. They were always there when I needed help and wanted me to do the very best in my studies.

How have you found lockdown?
I found it a very strange time, as everyone did, but quite relaxing as it gave me more time to think about my future career options and what I wanted to do. I continued to work towards my A-levels throughout in case I had to redo my exams.

What has been your biggest achievement here?
Receiving both my GCSE and A-level grades! I am extremely proud of myself for working hard and not giving up at all.

What are your future career steps?
I have been accepted onto the Primary Education Course at Sheffield Hallam University, so my future is very school based. I am looking forward to it very much.

Has the UTC prepared you well for the future?
The UTC has made me more confident in talking to employers which is a very valuable skill in the workplace. I’m now able to communicate with lots of different people and want to develop this further in my future career.

Do you have any advice for someone wanting to study here?
I would say ‘go for it’, else you’ll miss out. It is a very good school and has so many amazing opportunities for individuals of all ages, and it really helps to develop your skills needed for the future.
