New Applied Science course available to study at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park

UTC Sheffield OLP has launched an exciting new offer for sixth form students, the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Certificate in Applied Science. The new course will run from September 2020 and is available to Year 12 students wishing to study a vocational qualification in Science alongside A Levels.

The new qualification has been designed with experts from the Health and Science sectors to ensure it focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s employers demand. It provides a strong basis for progression to university, apprenticeships or work and is recognised by universities for UCAS tariff points.

The new Applied Science course will include fundamental science mandatory content, as well as in-depth examination of human physiology, cell structure and genetics. It will enable students to gain practical laboratory skills and develop theoretical scientific understanding.

Students at the UTC studying the Applied Science qualification will also benefit from learning in state-of-the-art facilities and gain valuable real-life experience working with employers. Students will develop both practical and professional skills through carrying out real experiments and research.

Principal Jessica Stevenson said, “Studying Applied Science at the UTC is a fantastic opportunity to work with local employers and use state-of-the-art equipment that may not be readily available in the classroom. This course will provide students with valuable experience to prepare them for future roles within this exciting, innovative sector.”

At KS5, you will study Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technicals with the option of Applied Science and A Levels.
