Derby’s UTC joints The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust

Derby’s University Technical College has officially joined The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust this week.

The Regional Schools Commissioner for the East Midlands, and the Department for Education, officially approved the move on December 1st. Derby Manufacturing UTC will now be known as UTC Derby Pride Park.

Nick Crew, Executive Principal, The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, said: “Our Trust has a strong track record of success within the UTC movement. We are running two of the top performing UTCs nationally, both being Ofsted graded ‘good’.”

He added: “I am extremely proud of what we are achieving for our students and employers in Sheffield City Region and delighted that we can share our expertise and best practice to support another UTC. There are no significant changes anticipated regarding our day-to-day operations; and it will be business as usual.”

UTC Derby Pride Park specialises in engineering and will launch a life sciences specialism from September 2020. The £8 million facility is backed by top employers including Bombardier, Rolls-Royce and Toyota as well as the University of Derby and Derby College.

The UTC was formerly known as Derby Manufacturing UTC and opened in September 2015; and is in the process of migrating to a new website: https://www.utcderby.org.uk/
