UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park students achieve top GCSE and technical results

Students at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park are celebrating a top set of GCSE and technical results.

The UTC – which is Ofsted graded ‘good’ – is a technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds that is based on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Old Hall Road, Attercliffe Common.

At the UTC, students complete GCSEs alongside technical qualifications in computing or health sciences or sport science.

A total of 98 students sat GCSE exams this year and the pass rate is 98%.

Of those students, 87% have achieved a grade 4 (low C equivalent) or above in GCSE English. The figure is 80% for maths and 78% for science.

And 60% of students have achieved a grade 5 (high C equivalent) or above in GCSE English. The figure is 50% for maths and 51% for science.

The technical qualification pass rate is 100% for health sciences, 100% for sport science and 85% for computing.

Dr Sarah Clark, Principal of UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: “This is a fantastic set of academic and technical results and I would like to congratulate our students on their success.”

The technical qualifications involve working on employer-led projects and developing skills related to the subject specialism as well as team working and problem solving skills. The £10 million UTC is equipped with cutting edge industry standard facilities.

UTCs are government funded technical schools that have been established to provide technical learning opportunities in partnership with employers and universities. They provide academic and technical qualifications to match the skills needs of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment.

Employers supporting the UTC include Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, employers on the Olympic Legacy Park, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.
