Public Invited to 3D Printing Lecture at UTC Sheffield

Our UTC Sheffield City Centre campus is inviting the public to attend a 3D printing technology lecture organised by industry experts this week.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ talk will look at the impact of 3D printing including the challenges and the opportunities. Also known as additive manufacturing, 3D printing refers to processes used to create a three-dimensional object.

Alex Reynolds, Principal at UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “Engineering offers a wide range of exciting career opportunities. Our students learn about the latest skills and industry developments, which include 3D printing, so we are delighted to host this prestigious event.”

Paul Croft, Director of Ultimater and Founder of the Create Education Project, will present the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Peter Harrison Lecture at UTC Sheffield City Centre campus, on Matilda Street, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, November 9th.

To book your place, and for more information about the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ regional events, visit http://nearyou.imeche.org/near-you/UK/Yorkshire.

We are also running a series of showcase events for young people interested in creative and digital, advanced engineering, computing, healthcare sciences and sport science. The next ones take place on November 14th, November 22nd, December 5th and January 16th. For more information, visit www.utcsheffield.org.uk/events.

Students can join the UTC at the age of 13 in Year 9 or aged 14 in Year 10 or aged 16 in Year 12. They study technical and academic qualifications including GCSEs and A Levels. UTC Sheffield recruits students from South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire. The Sheffield College, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce sponsor the UTCs.
