UTC Sheffield Showcase Event, 21st October

Young people interested in applying for a place at UTC Sheffield are invited to a showcase event this month.

The University Technical College, on Matilda Street, offers GCSEs and A-levels alongside technical qualifications for the advanced engineering and manufacturing, and creative and digital industries.

Places are still available for the free event open to young people, parents and teachers, on Tuesday October 21st from 6pm to 8pm. Go to www.utcsheffield.org.uk/events to book your place.

Visitors will have a chance to meet the principal, tour the new £9.9 million facilities, and talk to staff and employers involved in the curriculum. They will get involved in hands-on activities and discover the careers and progression opportunities available to students.

UTC Sheffield is the first institution of its kind to launch in Yorkshire and recruits from across Sheffield City Region including South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire. There are now more than 450 students in total on the roll. The UTC opened in September 2013 and has total capacity for 600 students, as part of a phased recruitment process.

The curriculum is supported by more than 40 employers and provides traditional academic and technical qualifications tailored to two sectors where there are skills gaps regionally – the advanced engineering and manufacturing, and creative and digital industries.

Principal Nick Crew said: “We have gone from strength to strength since opening last year, and I am looking forward to welcoming young people and their parents to show them our exciting curriculum offer and fantastic new facilities.”

He added: “UTC Sheffield is a small and specialist institution where every child is known. We deliver a well-rounded education offering traditional academic and technical qualifications in specialist skills that enhance career and university prospects.”

UTC Sheffield is fitted with £1 million of specialist equipment including top specification engineering systems and robotics, high tech design and sound studios, and an all weather rooftop sports pitch.
