“We are a small and specialist institution where every child will be known.”

Nick Crew, Principal

Places are still available for a free event this week for young people interested in a Year 10 place at the brand new University Technical College Sheffield opening later this year.
The free showcase event is aimed at teenagers as well as parents and teachers. It takes place on Wednesday March 20th from 6pm to 8pm in the Heartspace at the Owen Building, Sheffield Hallam University, Howard Street.

There will be information on careers in the creative and digital media industries, and advanced engineering and manufacturing sector, which the University Technical College Sheffield, the first of its kind in Yorkshire, will specialise in.

There will also be the chance to meet UTC Sheffield Principal Nick Crew and employers supporting the curriculum, and to find out more about routes into employment and university. Hands-on activities will include animation, graphic design, photography, radio broadcasting, film and television, as well as the opportunity to discover more about Raspberry Pi, Arduino and Minecraft.

Principal Nick Crew said: “We are a small and specialist institution where every child will be known, and we are recruiting for Year 10 now. Students will gain a well rounded education steeped in practical skills, and academic and vocational qualifications, leading to real jobs or university afterwards. I am really looking forward to meeting young people and parents attending the event, and answering any questions they may have.”

The £9.9 million UTC Sheffield will open on Shoreham Street this September and specialise in academic and vocational qualifications, and work-based learning, for the advanced engineering and manufacturing, and creative industries sectors.

It will be fitted with £1 million of specialist equipment including engineering mini factories, high tech design and sound studios, and a multi-use rooftop five-a-side football pitch. GCSEs and A-levels will be offered alongside specialist vocational diploma courses.
