As from today, Friday 27 March, UTC Sheffield City Centre will be closed to all students until further notice. I would like to thank all parents for abiding by the government guidelines and supporting the welfare of the staff and students by keeping students at home.

As from Monday 30 March, UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park will be closed to all students. We will be open again for children of key workers and vulnerable students after the Easter holidays on Tuesday 14 April. I would like to thank parents and carers for abiding by the government guidelines and supporting the welfare of the staff and students by keeping students at home.

Sport Science

Do you enjoy sport or sports science? Are you curious about how athlete’s bodies work? Do you want to work alongside top athletes or be an athlete yourself?

Studying Sport Science, you will develop a scientific understanding how sport, exercise and lifestyle effects the body. You will look at ways to improve training and fitness and apply this to sporting professionals and the general public as well as improving you own sporting ability and fitness.

  • The Sports Sector is a fast growing employment sector, especially within Health

Through studying Sport Science, you could become an Elite Athlete, Physiotherapist, Sports Journalist, Coach, Personal Trainer, Sports Analysist, the list goes on…

The UTC will not only prepare you for all these options, but also for the careers of tomorrow.

What Will I Study?

At KS4, you will study a combination of Level 2 OCR Cambridge Nationals in both Health and Sport Science alongside GCSEs.

In addition, will have time dedicated to Physical Education, Citizenship, Careers Education and Guidance, and Personal, Health and Social Education, as well as plenty of opportunity for independent study time.

At KS5, you will study Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technicals in Sport and Physical Activity with the option of Applied Science and A Levels.

If you are studying at Level 3, technical studies will account for 60% of your curriculum time. There are also opportunities to follow a Level 2 course.

Employer-led Projects

You will work with athletes at all levels, including those at the top of their fields to understand how performance of the human body can be improved thought the application of science and technology. For example, you could be working with a professional sportsman and their coach, understanding how they build strength when they are training, and then apply this learning to people who are managing chronic asthmatic conditions.

What jobs are available in Sport Science?

Elite Athlete / Sports Scientist / Coach / Fitness Trainer / Events Manager / Physiotherapy
