Mia, Creative & Digital

Sixteen-year-old Mia is celebrating a top set of results after achieving 8 GCSE’s including a grade 8 in Photography, a grade A in Media Studies alongside a Level 2 Distinction* and Level 2 Distinction in her Creative and Digital Media BTEC.

She said: “I’m really pleased with my results and I’m looking forward to coming back to the UTC to study my A Levels.”

Mia joined the UTC as she knew she wanted to specialise in Creative and Digital Media, and was looking forward to the practical side of learning.

Part of this practical learning involved working on projects set by employers. Mia said: “My favourite project was with Sainsbury’s, where we had to create an animation based on the characters from their Christmas advert. Working with employers has given me more of a sense of the working environment.”

Commenting further on her time at the UTC, she said: “I’ve enjoyed being part of a smaller school as there’s more of a family feel. It’s also great that the media suites we work in have been kitted out based on what employers use in industry.”

She added: “I’ve had lots of opportunities here including being a Student Ambassador. This involved attending and helping at parents’ evenings, supporting and introducing the new Y9 students and sharing my experience with them.”

Mia is looking forward to coming back to the UTC in September to study Creative and Digital Media Level 3, together with A Level Photography and wants to pursue an Apprenticeship upon completing her studies.
