UTC Sheffield student Aaron George has fought off tough competition from scores of other applicants to secure a higher apprenticeship with a global company.
The 18-year-old is going onto train as a mechanical engineer with MBDA Missiles Systems based in Hertfordshire, which has offices internationally.
Aaron has achieved two A Levels in maths and product design at grade B and D, and a technical qualification in engineering achieving a distinction* distinction.
He said: “I feel happy with my results and what I’m going to do next. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. A lot of people applied for the apprenticeship vacancies and only a few were selected. I was over the moon. I want to earn as I learn. This way, I can still get a good qualification, but without all the debt from going to university.”
Aaron added: “I’ve really enjoyed studying at UTC Sheffield. I’ve enjoyed the employer projects and learning how to apply academic theory to practical tasks. I’ve also picked up other life skills such as good time keeping and teamwork.”
Alex Reynolds, Principal, UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “I am delighted for Aaron, he has worked exceptionally hard and deserves the opportunities that will be afforded to him by working for such a renowned international company.”
