UTC Sheffield student Harry Hudson’s career is in first gear as his prospects get set to accelerate with a degree apprenticeship with global car manufacturer BMW.
The 18-year-old has always had a keen interest in engineering and will start the four-year apprenticeship at BMW in Birmingham this month.
Harry has achieved double distinction* in a technical qualification in engineering and an A Level grade D in product design.
Now he will learn and train in the workplace whilst studying towards a Degree in Engineering without having to cover the costs of tuition fees.
He said: “It’s been nerve-racking waiting for my results but I’m very happy with them. I’ve always been passionate about engineering. To have the chance to earn while I learn with a global company and get a degree is amazing.
Harry added: “I’ve really enjoyed the hands-on technical learning at UTC Sheffield and I’ve got skills relevant to industry. If you want a career in engineering, then it’s the place to study.”
Alex Reynolds, Principal, UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “Harry has secured a fantastic destination as a result of his hard work over the last two years. He is a brilliant example of how a UTC education can guide students to careers in our specialist sectors, especially into higher apprenticeships where they can achieve degrees without the fees! We are all excited to see Harry continue to succeed as his career progresses in the future.”
