Rebecca, Creative and Digital

Rebecca is proud to be one of the first trailblazing girls at UTC Sheffield.

Rebecca Jackson won the Sheffield city-wide enterprise competition, BiG Challenge, in 2011 with her online jewellery design business, FunkySprout, and has not looked back since. At the time she was also training in water polo five nights a week, and this multi-talented approach remains a trade mark of her activity.

The 18-year-old, from Sheffield, is now studying at the Peter Jones Academy for entrepreneurship after graduating from  UTC Sheffield in 2015.

Rebecca pursued the Creative and Digital route through the UTC, after joining in Year 12 in September 2013, when the UTC first opened its doors. It allowed her to combine her passion for creativity and design with her interest in English, music and entrepreneurship.

Alongside A Levels, she gained double distinction stars in Cambridge Technicals Level 3 in Digital Media, which is equivalent to two A2 levels.

Rebecca said: “I felt very happy and content studying at the UTC. Being able to complete technical as well as academic qualifications was the perfect combination for me.”

She added: “Moving to the UTC definitely lived up to expectations. I enjoyed the fact that you get contact with employers, and that they set and give feedback on our coursework. It gives you valuable industry knowledge and confidence in your chosen specialism.”
