Hannah, Creative and Digital

Hannah joined UTC Sheffield City Centre as a Year 12 student with a passion for creative and digital industries. She says, ‘I chose the UTC because it’s a really creative place and I work well doing hands-on things, and that’s exactly what the UTC offered.’ She has now been offered a higher level Cinema Apprenticeship at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.

Hannah first found out about the apprenticeship when she decided university might not be the best option for her: ‘Originally Miss Allen told me about this opportunity. I was talking about apprenticeships to her, as I’d applied to university but wasn’t sure it was the right decision. Miss Allen emailed a couple of apprenticeship opportunities through, we looked at them and I decided to apply for the Showroom as it looked spot on. Miss Allen then helped me with my cover letter and with practice interviews.’

Hannah will start her apprenticeship after completing her technical qualifications and A Levels at the UTC. Her apprenticeship will be a mix of marketing and programming; she will be responsible for tasks including creation of promotional material, choosing the footage for the previews to films, social media and working with the clubs and activities provided at the Showroom. ‘I’m looking forward to all the new experiences I’ll have and meeting so many new and interesting people. It’s going to be amazing, I think I’ll thrive in the creative environment.’
After completing her apprenticeship, Hannah plans to stay within the creative sector to pursue her career: ‘My passion is definitely producing and I’d like to make short films and TV shows. I hope to stay in the business and progress.’

Commenting on her overall experience of the UTC, Hannah said, ‘The environment is really good – when you are submerged in it you get to meet so many different people and you can create so many different things. The UTC opens up loads of opportunities, there is so much I’ve learnt that I don’t think I would have done in sixth form. Here you’re actually doing it, it’s so much more creative!’
