Creative & Digital Media Student Loved Script Writing at the UTC
When did you start at the UTC? (What year)
Where did you study previously?
Why did you decide to move to the UTC?
The Creative and Digital Media course looked interesting, and I was enthusiastic about learning about this subject, as I didn’t have any experience of it before I joined.
What subjects did you study at the UTC and did you enjoy them? Which was your favourite?
I loved using Adobe Premiere and being creative. It was nice to be able to make things myself and explore the creative industries. I loved the film-making process, which involved editing and creating scripts and storyboards. It was good to learn how to work independently and use my own initiative and work with my classmates in a group.
Do you mind me asking what grades you received?
I got a P2 in Creative Imedia, 54 in Combined Science, 4 in Mathematics, 5 in Design and Technology, 7 in English Language and a 7 in Media Studies.
How do you feel about your results?
I’m very pleased with my results! It’s nice to have confidence in what I do and be able to receive the results that I believe I deserve through hard work.
Do you have any favourite memories/stand out moments e.g. engagement with a certain project/employer?
Some employers came into the UTC to teach us how to become more employable. For example, we got involved in workshops where we learnt how to write a CV and develop our transferable skills, and we listened to talks about the roles available within the creative and digital media industries.
How have you found lockdown – did you find it challenging or did you learn anything from it?
I found it challenging and it made me appreciate face-to-face lessons. However, the UTC were really organised and reassured us when we participated in virtual lessons from home.
What’s been your biggest achievement during your time at the UTC?
My biggest achievement is doing well in both English and Creative and Digital Media. These were my favourite subjects and I worked extremely hard on these.
Have you done any extra-curricular activities at the UTC? Or have you had hobbies alongside your studies?
I study Japanese along my studies, which has been challenging but a great learning experience. I’ve learnt how to prioritise my workload and manage my time well.
What are your next steps for the future? Do you have an idea of what career you want to pursue?
I applied to do English Language and Psychology at college.
Do you think the UTC has prepared you well for your future?
The UTC has enabled me to become more independent and learn how to solve problems myself.
What would you say to someone thinking about joining the UTC to study Creative and Digital Media?
I would say make sure you are interested in either Creative and Digital Media or Engineering before joining, as you will spend a lot of time learning about these subjects. You get so much support from teachers in all lessons, so it’s a great place to learn and achieve your full potential.
