Creative and Digital Media students visit Hallam FM

Year 10 Creative and Digital Media students have enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to visit leading Sheffield based radio station, Hallam FM.

The 32 students, who visited Hallam FM on Friday 1st March, were split up into six groups where they put their creativity to the test. They were given briefs for various companies such as Magna, Wedding Venues at Kelham Island, Scrapyard and many more. In their groups the students had to pick one of these companies and come up with ideas for advertising their products and services, creating posters and storyboards to convey their suggestions. Following this, the groups were challenged with pitching their campaigns to the rest of the group and members of the Hallam FM team.

The students also had the chance to look around the Hallam FM radio station, meet the producers and find out about the career opportunities available within the industry. One of the students, Elodie, said: “It was great to know all the different things you can do at a radio station. I’m really passionate about illustration and you can get a job at Hallam FM doing illustration …which I would have never thought you could before!”

Another student, Ben, said: “I really enjoyed the visit to Hallam FM, it was a great experience and good to see what it is like in the work place”.

Nathan, also a student at UTC, added: “Being split into random groups and working together in a team was a good opportunity to get to know different students in my own year group that I haven’t got to know yet.”

Philippa Revitt, Commercial Digital Executive at Hallam FM, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to have the Y10s at Hallam FM and be able to introduce them to the world of radio and media. All the students were fully engaged and produced some great work for real briefs. We were really impressed with all the potential that the students have, and we look forward to seeing what they will do in the future. We may have even been blessed with future, creative, digital and commercial executives that can help to move what is an ever-changing business into the future.”
