What will I do on this course?
You will have 5 lessons a week in Y9. You will study a range of literature in class from
different cultures and heritages as well as contemporary works.
You will have opportunities to respond to texts through media, drama, discussion and written
work. You will develop different skills such as empathy and analysis.

How am I assessed?
This GCSE will be assessed entirely by exams, which you will take at the end of Y10.

What skills do I need?
 – Ability to work independently as well as part of a group
 – Perceptive response to literary and non-literary texts
 – Clear written English
 – The ability to work in controlled conditions
- Organisational skills to meet deadlines
 – A range of reading skills developed through class and independent reading.

Any other essential information?
This is a dual award qualification to be studied along with GCSE English Language. You will
be awarded two separate GCSE grades at the end of the course (GCSE English Language
and GCSE English Literature).
