Digital Media Cambridge Technicals

Overview

The Creative & Digital Media specialism at UTC Sheffield provides students with a wide range of digital skills, from vision and design to marketing and communication.

At Key Stage 5, you will study for a Level 3 Cambridge Technicals in Digital Media along with two or more A Levels.  Creative & Digital Media students can choose from two or more A Levels from Art, Chemistry, English Literature, Maths, Further Maths, Photography, Physics and Product Design.

On this course you will work with a range of employers to complete either a pathway in Moving Image (Film/ TV/Radio/Special Effects) or Interactive  (Animation/Web Design/Game Design) over the two years.

You will learn in hi-tech studios and media labs catering for film, photography, animation and web application.  State-of-the art facilities also include a sound studio for creating radio features and developing soundtracks exploring music technology and speech projects, as well as a superb art and design space with exhibition space.

Throughout each term, you’ll work on multimedia projects with creative and digital companies such as Bauer Media (Hallam FM), Sumo Digital and WARP Films,  or event commissions such as local festivals with national and even international reputation like Tramlines and Docfest.

The digital and new media industries in our region are growing at a faster rate than anywhere else in the UK. Overall in the UK over 1.5 million people are employed in creative industries or in creative roles in other industries  so there’s no shortage of opportunities. This pathway at the UTC will give you a wide range of opportunities, including employment in UTC partner companies and access to top quality, relevant degree courses.

You will work professionally to employer led briefs to create a portfolio of work that will provide you with experience of using software, creative networking and presentation skills.

How will it be delivered?

There are 3 mandatory exams that cover:

  • Unit 1 – media products and audiences – (Y12)
  • Unit 2 Pre-production and planning – (Y12)
  • Unit 6 – social media and globalisation – (Y13)

The rest of the diploma is coursework assessment.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements – Level 3

All applicants for Level 3 admission will need to meet a minimum entry requirement of 5 GCSE passes at 4/5, including English and Maths and a GCSE in a Media/IT or Production based subject.
